Reflection

The Cover Letter was rather simple as I have written many cover letters and therefore had a foundation on which to build. Despite the fact that writing a cover letter can be a soul-sucking exercise, writing a cover letter for an industry in which I do not have much experience was almost fun, and I found that my existing skills were able to be put to good use. The process overall felt far less demeaning than it does for the kind of jobs that don't list a wage because the expectation is that it's the minimum. My experience writing cover letters combined with the intrigue I felt about the job listing I found made the writing of the cover letter require somewhat less planning than the other assignments: I simply used my current generic cover letter as a template for the text, customized it for the job listing, and once again set out to make it look as nice as possible, having great fun with Microsoft Office along the way.

Feedback

Criticism for the Cover Letter

The feedback I received for this assignment was more plentiful than the last, despite the grade being higher. I used the dreaded "a lot" when describing experience gained with a previous employer, as I was attempting to explain that I already had some knowledge of the world of finance but learned more from the employer in question. Additionally, I addressed the letter "To Whom it May Concern:" as this is the generally-accepted wisdom when there is no specific name nor title nor role associated with the application process. In the future, I will be sure to avoid using "a lot" at all costs and will heavily research any future positions to determine the person or position most likely to receive the letter so that it may be adequately addressed.
